MIAMI BEACH, FL – Mount Sinai Medical Center on Friday announced that it is the recipient of a multi-million dollar contribution from Dr. Donald L. Golden and his family. The unrestricted gift represents one of the largest in the hospital’s history.

“We are proud to make this contribution in support of the hospital’s important mission to provide high quality healthcare enhanced with teaching, research and community service,” Dr. Golden said.

A resident of Bal Harbour and Detroit, Dr. Golden is the former chairman of D.O.C. Optics Corp., a company he founded in 1946 in his native Detroit, Mich. In recognition of his family’s generosity, Mount Sinai’s new 106,000-square-foot medical office building will be named for Dr. Golden and his family. The nine-story building, which opened earlier this year, features custom-designed physician offices, a covered bridge to the hospital, and a 500-space parking garage.

“We are deeply gratified to be the beneficiaries of the Golden family’s support,” said Michael M. Adler, chairman of the hospital’s Board of Trustees. “Our new medical office building represents a bold step in our growth and provides a beautiful environment for our outstanding medical staff. Naming it in honor of Dr. Golden and his family is a fitting tribute.”

“As the only hospital on Miami Beach and one of only six teaching hospitals in the state, Mount Sinai is a critical healthcare resource for our community,” said Steven D. Sonenreich, president and chief executive officer. “We are honored that the Golden family has embraced our mission in such a meaningful way. Their gift will have a tremendous impact on our ability to meet our community’s healthcare needs for generations to come.”

Dr. Golden has been a Mount Sinai supporter since 2005, when he joined the Founders of Mount Sinai, the hospital’s most time-honored philanthropic organization. He and his wife, Marion, will be the honorees of the 54th Annual Founders Ball on Saturday, March 28, at the Hotel Intercontinental. They also will be installed as Doctors of Philanthropy in the Society of Mount Sinai, the organization that represents the highest level of giving at the hospital.

In addition, Marion Golden will be the honoree at the Tender Care and Love annual luncheon, hosted by The Cancer Lifeline of Mount Sinai and the Ambassadors of the Wien Center for Alzheimer’s Disease and Memory Disorders on Friday, January 9, at Jungle Island.

“In order to remain on the leading edge of healthcare and provide the best care possible for our patients, Mount Sinai needs the philanthropic support of the community,” said Mark H. Hildebrandt, president of Mount Sinai Medical Center Foundation. “We are deeply grateful to Dr. Golden and his family for making such an extraordinary gift.”
